Child Protection Programs at ANPPCAN Zimbabwe Office aim to fosterlong-term joint action program of government departments and non-governmental organizations to deal with issues of the promotion and protection of children's rights, civil education on these issues and the implementation of child friendly legislation, policy and service provision.

Child Labour Program

Child Labour is an area of major concern in child protection as child work is culturally part of children's socialization and so drawing the line betweeen child work and child labour is critical to the protection of children's rights to education, play, health care, fair wages and development in general. ANPPCAN is an arm of the Coalition Against Child Labor in Zimbawe (CACLAZ), which comprises the Progressive Teachers Union (PTUZ) and the General Plantation Workers Association of Zimbabwe (GAPWUZ). The program aims to make Zimbabwe a Child Labor Free Zone, withdrawing children from work and re-intergrating into school former child labourers as is their right and also so that their capacity is build a brighter future allowing them to become productive citizens of Zimbabwe.

Male involvement

ANPPCAN Zimbabwe has partnered with the African Fathers Initiative to positively engage men in child protection. One of the first fruits of this partnership is a TV talkshow on fatherhood and its effect of children through the lack or availability of it thereof. The talkshow will provide a platform for discussion on the positive role of men as nurtures and socialization agents and not just as providers and disciplinarians. Watch this website for more on this development. 2010 will see ANPPCANZimbabwe bring male involvement to all child protection programming because men have before now largely been left out and yet they are also parents and guardians and account for a large number of child abusers. Men too have the right and responsibility to be involved in the prevention of child abuse and protection of children's rights.

Child participation in programming

2010 will also see intensified mainstreaming of child participation into our programming, engaging all children including child parliamentarians. Child participation has always been a major component of all our child protection programming, now there will be intensified capacity  building of young persons so they advocate for themselves for the protection of rights of orphans and other vulnerable children in Zimbabwe. It is a direct and practical approach to attaining child rights.
